India’s
premier motorsport event, the
Maruti Suzuki Raid De Himalaya is eleven years old!!
To take part in the X-treme on a motorcycle or ATV is considered
certifiable madness. Fortunately for this ever growing section of the
Raid there seems to be no shortage of the insanely adventurous!! The
motorcycles that compete stretch from lowly 100cc Honda's to the
suberbly tuned KTM's and Yamahas. Over the years it is accepted that 80
percent of starters will wilt by the wayside and only 20 percent will
see the Finish Arch! For those that are unreasonably tough mentally and
physically and totally impervious to the cold......Click

Chances
are
that you will not see the
Flag Off for Leg 2 if you are here for the first time. 90 percent of
newbies will hobble into the last time control well beyond the Maximum
Permitted Lateness, completely dazed from the unfolding events. Service
crews will be equally crestfallen and amazed at how a rally car can
disintegrate in ONE working day! To join the mayhem you have had to have
completed a National level rally. First timers are not permitted for the
simple reason that this category of the
Maruti Suzuki Raid De Himalaya
can prove fatally dangerous to the uninitiated. However you can enter
the Adventure Trial as a bright eyed, fresh faced, "full of aspirations"
first timer and get initiated...For those that have been baptised and
can't wait to tempt the Grim Reaper...Click

The Adventure Trial was born out of a
Catch 22 situation: no newcomer could rally the X-treme unless they had
completed a National level rally and all the National level rallies
needed experience to complete ...so there it was - a veritable roadblock
to new talent !! Himalayan Motorsport innovated a solution in 2003 which
saw first timers flock to a category of the
Maruti Suzuki Raid De Himalaya
that ran for them alone..a
Time Speed Distance format that was both cost friendly and educative.
All makes of stock cars are permitted
-- navigators are born within 7 days and drivers turn to real champions.
If you are adventurous and competitive but don't want to destroy your
family car and still have serious fun then this is your introduction to
organised rallying...Click
