X-TREME 

5th  - 13th October 2004

Tentative Programme  of the 6th Raid de Himalaya 2004

The Raid de Himalaya 2004 will start on the 5th October 2004 at Shimla and will conclude at Manali on the 13th October 2004. The detailed programme is as under :

5th and 6th October 2004

Pre Event Scrutiny

All vehicles will be inspected for conformity to International Standards of Safety and Preparation as laid down by the FiA. Owing to a large expected entry list this process has been allotted two days to complete, considering the great attention to detail that is required. Scrutiny  will be held at Hotel PeterHoff of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Corporation at Shimla

7th October 2004

Leg 1 Shimla – Manali

An early start at 0600 hrs will take the rally from Shimla via Narkanda, Bagi, Sungri to Bahli. This  will be a tarmac run and fast. The second stage  from Bagipul to  Kandagai  will be all dirt. From there a long transport via Jalori pass to Kullu and Manali will follow.

The Raid will halt at Manali for the night after a run of about 400 kms.

8th October 2004

Leg 2 Manali – Kaza

The  250 kms “Himalayan Experience” will start on this day. The raid will be flagged off by 0700 hrs for Kaza. From Gramphoo a 150 kms dirt stage will take the raid to Losar and then to Kaza.

The night halt will be Kaza.

9th October 2004

Leg 3  Kaza – Pang

The pressure will steadily increase both on the resources of the participants and their vehicles from this Leg onwards. 400 kms of the real Himalayas and 4 major passes await them.

The first stage will be the return trip on the same 150 kms from Kaza to Gramphoo. From Gramphoo the Raid will head to Darcha for a second competitive stage. This will run from Darcha to Naki La.

The night halt will be at Pang.

10th October 2004

Leg 4  Pang – Mahe – Leh

A relaxed start ay 0900 hrs will see the Raid start on its “off day”. This should be a relatively easy 260 km run to Leh via the Tso Kar wildlife reserve. However  previous years have shown this to be a treacherous run fraught with unexpected adventure.

The night halt will be at Leh.

11th October 2004

Leg 5  Leh- Chang La – Lukung – Chushul – Nyoma – Mahe – Pang

This will be the hardest Leg the Raid de Himalaya has ever attempted in its 6 years!

Flag off will be at 0400 hrs. 430 kilometres of X-treme rallying.

There will be two stages. The first will be from Lukung to Nyoma, the second from Mahe  to Tso Kar.

Night halt at Pang.

12th October 2004

Leg 6  Pang – Manali

An easy start and one small competitive from Nakee La to Patseo should conclude the final 300 kms driving on the Raid de Himalaya at Manali.

13th October 2004

 Post Event Scrutiny and Prize Distribution will bring to an end the 6th Raid de Himalaya 2004.
